What is solar PV & how does it work?

First, in terms of definition, the solar PV industry refers to the direct generation of electricity through the photovoltaic effect, where sunlight hits silicon materials and produces an electric current (Hoffmann, 2006). As a renewable energy resource for power generation, the demand for solar PV is inextricably linked to electricity consumption.

Do solar panels follow the Sun?

The problem the students are solving is the sun moves across the sky, but solar panels remain stationary. The goal is to design a prototype solar panel that “follows” the sun to optimize its sunlight exposure. Theoretically students will apply what they learned about the sun flowers to help solve this problem.
